Cabin Fever is the inspiration and perspiration of Andrew Kelly.
Andrew explains- "While looking for a product for my own use, I discovered that it didn’t exist. Having just closed a 20 year business, I was looking for the next challenge."
With a background in product design, and extensive experience in factory operations and building construction, prefab building was a natural step. Dan Owens, architect, and CF partner has been with us since the beginning, collaborating on design issues both large and small.
Andrew worked as a framing carpenter, finish carpenter and cabinet maker directly out of high school. In college, he purchased and renovated a commercial building to create a workshop for a start-up business. The shop produced a production run of custom chairs and tables. This was the inception of URBANUS, a furniture design and manufacture business he ran with his wife and fellow designer, Gayle Zalduondo, for the next 25 years.
URBANUS eventually grew to 50+ employees and $10MM in annual revenues. We owned and operated a 30,000 sq. ft. manufacturing facility in Miami as well as a showroom in Highpoint NC. URBANUS clients included ABC Carpet and Home, Pottery Barn, Restoration Hardware, Smith & Hawken, Ethan Allen, Room & Board and Crate & Barrel, to whom we were the top supplier of occasional tables. URBANUS pioneered the use of alloy metals as a home furnishing material and is recognized industry-wide as a leader in product design and innovation. Today, URBANUS furniture is manufactured under a 3rd-party royalty agreement.
Gayle and Andrew are raising 3 beautiful children ages 15, 13, and 7.
